Եղիշե Չարենցի անունը արաջացել է Ալեքսանդր Պուշկինի գրած <Անչար> ոտանավորի արդյունքում։ Անչարը նաև ծառատեսակ է։ 1921 թվականից «Չարենց» գրական անունը նրա համար դառնում է նաև քաղաքացիական ազգանուն։
